Olivia Cognet worked for JC de Castelbajac, Sonia Rykiel or Carven before launching her own shoes brand, Apologie, in 2011.
Who are you?
Olivia Cognet, a Parisian from Nice.
How did you start in fashion?
Ten years ago, I literally jumped in the shoes industry. This passion dates from my childhood when I was playing in the South Alps mountains.
How would you define your style?
Off-the-wall, joyful, affective, feminine, comforting, timeless, rallying.
What inspires you?
Women, musical shows, old-fashioned stuff, journeys, Etorre Stossas, curiosity cabinet, women's sensual curves and their gauche side... but most of all, bakeries !
A few words about this collection...
The SS/14 Apologie new collection brings face to face the colours from a tropical jungle and the "Swimming Pool" pictures by Slim Aarons.
My multicoloured fabrics come out from the jungle, leopard prints, flashy leathers, embroidered birds combined with the 60's spirit for the light and happy-go-lucky touch.
The Slim Aarons' woman, free and confident, drinks a cocktail next to the swimming pool before adventuring in a mysterious jungle.
What's your favorite piece in our selection?
I like them all because I spend so much time with each pair, they kind of represent my babies.
What are you most proud of?
I am really proud to work with Italian shoes craftsmen, they transmit their know-how from generation to generation. Most of the time, the factories belong to one family.
I am also proud of my team with which we work hand in hand everyday so that Apologie can become a new reference in French creative shoes.
Apologie is also proud to have movie stars such as Vanessa Paradis, Mélanie Laurent, Emmanuelle Béart as clients, we just love them !
Where do you manufacture your products?
Mostly in Italy and also in Portugual.
Where can we find your collection?
In the best select shops ;-)
If your brand was a music, a movie, a cocktail...
"Mademoiselle" of Hypnolove.
The movie "Peau d'Âne".
A Moscow Mule cocktail made by my man.
